Clean Water Foundation: drinking water for the world Over a billion people have no access to clean water and 2.6 billion people do not have basic sanitation. This potentially life-threatening situation was reason enough for Georg Fischer to offer assistance.
In 2002, Georg Fischer’s bicentenary, the Clean Water Foundation was established. Clean Water is our platform for numerous projects worldwide aimed at supplying people with clean drinking water.
The goals of this foundation are to ensure survival, improve health conditions, stop migration and promote training and education. The activities of Clean Water focus on extracting, transporting, storing and distributing water as well as aiding reconstruction.
Helping people help themselves Clean Water supports specially selected projects that involve the local population and, if possible, make use of local techniques and materials. We believe self-sufficiency is the only way to ensure the long-term success of these projects.
67 projects in more than 40 countries In the first five years (2002 - 2007) alone, Clean Water invested over five million Swiss francs in 60 projects in 40 countries on four continents. As a result, 120,000 persons have gained better access to drinking water. In 2008 Georg Fischer contributed 530,000 Swiss francs to seven projects around the world.
GF employees are actively engaged Georg Fischer employees and the local sites contribute to the success of the foundation and its projects with their efforts and activities, which take the form of:
- individual donations
- collection campaigns
- project sponsorship
- donations of cash rather than Christmas presents for customers
- project weeks for apprentices
- follow-up visits to project sites
